The Resourcing and Development Department have provided the following information.
All officers and contact staff have had or are going through Domestic Abuse (DA) Matters First Responder training which includes coercive control as one of its themes.
DA Matters First Responder as above. Additionally, Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP), PIP2 officers have an input on coercove control in their Safeguarding week. It is also discussed in the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RaSSO) National Operating Model (NOM) Continued Professional Development (CPD) training and the Specialist Sexual Assault Investigators Development Programme 2 (SSAIDP) as part of the ‘Whole Story’ approach.
Not all the training detailed above covers harm to animals specifically however, in DA Matters First Responder training, this is discussed as a high-risk factor. All front line officers will be aware of harm to pets being a high-risk factor as it is included in the forms which officers must complete when attending any DA incidents.
