Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FIN/25/003307/V
Version Date: 23/06/2025
The South West Forensics Department have provided the following information.
As of the date of this request, could you please tell me the size of your backlog of digital devices waiting to be examined by your forensic unit as part of evidence building for a (potentially) criminal case? So please tell me how many devices (these could phones, laptops etc) are waiting for examination - and IF there is time under the act please break down this information by telling me what the nature of each of the cases is (i.e. the offence the device is being analysed in relation to)
Devices awaiting examination:
Computers: 19
Mobile Devices: 245
Each individual record would need to be read to determine offence, which would take over the appropriate limit outlined in the Act.
Please note, these figures provide a snapshot in time as of the day they were provided and the numbers could change daily.
