Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request ref: 01/FIN/25/003583/N
Version Date: 02/09/2025
The Performance Analysis Department has provided the following information.
Searches were completed on Niche for “Theft from a motor vehicle”, “Interference with a motor vehicle” and “Tampering with a motor vehicle”. There is no search criteria solely for HGVs so filters were used for vehicle type of “Goods vehicle” and filtered further by vehicle description to remove entries where the vehicle is not an HGV, e.g. pick-ups.
Searches were also completed within the occurrence enquiry log for the keywords “Petrol”, “Diesel” and “Fuel”.
The results have been reviewed for false positives, such as theft of petrol-powered tools from vehicles and fuel cards. However, theft of fuel tanks has been included.

If possible, I would appreciate it if the data for each year could also be broken down by month. However, if this is not possible within the cost and time limits of the FOI Act, the annual totals will be sufficient.
