The Performance Analysis Department has provided the following information:
We have searched the Niche Crime Database for crimes of Non- Fatal Strangulation (Including constables and emergency workers), that have a charged or summonsed/postal requisition outcome
Since Jan 2024, can you tell me:
- How many cases were charged under non-fatal strangulation
149 crimes
- How many of those cases where also charged under any sexual abuse/assault offences
None
We searched for crimes associated by “same event” to the non-fatal strangulation occurrences for Q1 that were recorded either as “Sexual Offences” or had a finalisation class containing “sexual abuse”. This resulted in 2 crimes but neither of which had an outcome of charged.
- How many were charged under any domestic abuse offences
132 of the 149 Charged non-fatal strangulation crimes had the Domestic Abuse flag applied
- How many cases were charged under sexual abuse/assault AND domestic abuse offences
None
- Occupation category of the perpetrator
Please Note: An individual can have multiple occupations recorded if they have also been arrested at other times for different offences For this request we have only included those with a single identifiable occupation for an arrest for this specific offence

- If you have any data in any notes on whether the perpetrator had any background or hobby in high contact sports including judo, martial arts, karate, ju jitsu.
We carried out an OEL keyword search for the following keywords within the 149 non-fatal strangulation crimes.
We reviewed the results and found 2 occurrences where the suspect had knowledge of martial arts.
