The Chief Constable commissioned the work to refresh the Force’s Race Action Plan and appointed a senior leader to deliver the plan.
Dorset Police is committed to continuing to have a dedicated resource for the ongoing delivery of the Race Action Plan, embedding the principles into our organisational DNA.
The plan is overseen at an Executive level by Assistant Chief Officer Jo Mosley and the performance is governed via the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Board, the Deputy Chief Constable’s Performance Board and is a regular agenda item on the Chief Constable’s Legitimacy Board.
We have developed a performance and outcomes framework that will be built into a digital dashboard to enable local command areas to track, monitor and proactively identify where disparity exists and take action accordingly. Aligning our framework with the national Police Race Action Plan Maturity Matrix will allow us to be synergised with the detailed work that was conducted with civil society groups and had national oversight from internal and external stakeholders.
We recognise that this is a journey and will seek to utilise trend data to assess ongoing progress from a data perspective and use surveys and reality testing to understand the qualitative measures that data cannot assess, such as feelings and experiences of our staff and communities.
We will commit to publishing an annual disproportionality report so we can be open and transparent about, with our first report to be published in early 2026.
