Police community support officer

Becoming a police community support officer (PCSO) is a great way to make a real difference in your local community and support frontline policing. PCSOs work closely with residents, schools and businesses to help tackle anti-social behaviour, provide reassurance and build trust.

You don’t need previous experience – just strong communication skills, a calm and approachable manner and a genuine commitment to helping others.

The starting salary is £27,204, with annual increments up to a maximum of £32,613.

As a PCSO you will be expected to be the face of Dorset Police by being a regular and effective presence within the community, helping to prevent, reduce and detect low-level crime and problems, and managing information and intelligence.

You will also work with neighbourhood policing team colleagues to carry out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries, providing reassurance to victims and ensuring the most vulnerable members of our community are safeguarded.

Through highly visible uniformed foot or cycle patrols, organised events and community visits, you will be out there engaging with communities ensuring they are listened to, understood, informed, protected and safe.
